There are five precepts of the Church; they are the basic requirements of being a practicing Catholic. These things are fairly obvious for us: attend Mass on Sunday, receive the Eucharist at least once a year during the Easter Season, participate in days of fasting and abstinence, and go to confession annually. There is one obligation that we may not remember:
“The faithful are obliged to assist with the material needs of the Church, each according to his own ability” (Catechism 2043).
We are called to imitate the widow who placed her two small coins in the temple treasury. The widow is commended because she contributes “all she had, her whole livelihood” (Mark 12:43).
We trust that when we give to the Lord, He pays us generously. The good Lord is never outdone in generosity. He will lavishly return our generosity in abundance.
Thank you for your contributions to our parish. They help us bring the good news of Jesus Christ to those in most need of His love. They also help us to care for the poor and to teach our young people. May the Lord reward you for your generosity.
