After Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, the Apostles gathered in the upper room for ten days of prayer. On the tenth day: “And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.” – Acts of the Apostles 2:2-4
The Sacrament of Confirmation completes Baptism by bonding the individual more perfectly to the Church and enriching him/her with the strength of the Holy Spirit. They are given the grace to witness to the faith by word and example. Just as the Holy Spirit emboldened the first Apostles to spread the Christian faith, the Sacrament of Confirmation emboldens Catholics to witness to the love and truth of Jesus Christ in the world.
